SYROP Founder and Principal, Arnold Syrop Associates For over 25 years Arnold Syrop has been a leader in hospitality design with diverse projects ranging from custom interiors to buildings from the ground up. Prior to founding Arnold Syrop Associates, Syrop served as a project designer with two of the 20th century’s most prominent architects Gordon Bunschaft of Skidmore Owings and Merrill, and Marcel Breuer. Syrop received a degree in architecture from the prestigious Pratt Institute School of Architecture where he was awarded the Dean’s Medal in Architecture, as well a Fulbright Fellowship for International Architecture. He is a guest professor at the Pratt Institute School of Design, teaching a design studio in Hospitality for seniors. Arnold Syrop’s involvement with the Culinary Institute of America as a Fellow and long term relationship with chefs and restaurateurs spanning more than 25 years has enabled him to understand the collaborative process between chef, owner, and the restaurant designer and develop spaces which reflect the creative food concepts of the chefs with whom he works. Syrop is the recipient of numerous awards and honors including the Gold Key Award, BI Design Award for the Top Hospitality Project in America, EIFS Award for Excellence in Design, and the Honor Award for the Top Restoration Project in the New Orleans Historic District. His work is widely published in books and magazines including Hospitality and Restaurant Design, Interior Design, Hospitality Design, Casa Vogue, Hotels, Buildings Magazine, Lodging, The New York Times, Restaurant Business and Contract Design. Arnold Syrop is a member of the New York Society of Architects, The National Council of Architectural Registration Boards and The Presidents Circle, Pratt Institute and Cornell University. He is a trustee of the Ackerman Institute for the Family, and The Bernard T. Selz Foundation and is a Fellow of the Culinary Institute of America. JOANNE WALLEN SYROP Principal, Arnold Syrop Associates Joanne Syrop has extensive experience as the Partner in Charge of Interior Design at Arnold Syrop Associates. Prior to joining the firm, Joanne was one of the leading needlepoint and rug designers in the United States and an established sculptor who has had a number of one-woman exhibitions at the David Findlay Gallery on Madison Avenue and elsewhere nationally. Her work is represented in private and corporate art collections. Joanne Syrop graduated from New York University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and studied with sculptor Vincent Glinsky and at the Art Students League in New York City. Joanne’s creative background has contributed to her impressive skills as a designer of custom rugs, carpets, seating and lighting fixtures for Arnold Syrop Associates, reflecting the creative approach she brings to the field. Many of the products designed by her are marketed nationally. She has designed original murals and architectural sculptures for hospitality and corporate clients including The Waldorf Astoria Hotel, The Eden Roc Hotel, Madison Square Garden, Rockefeller Center, The Smith and Wollensky Restaurant Group, The Renaissance Worthington Hotel, The Millenium Hilton and American Express.
